Young Readers Recognized in Smithtown
Nearly 200 students participate in summer reading program.

This summer, approximately 200 students each at Dogwood and Tackan elementary schools participated in the district’s summer reading program.
Both schools exceeded their marks in terms of number of books read and as a result, students were rewarded. At Dogwood, Principal Renee Carpenter handed out ‘Star Reader’ awards while Tackan Principal Allyn Leeds acknowledged the accomplishment with a colorful display on the bulletin board in the main lobby. Students were also treated to an ice cream extravaganza, sponsored by the Tackan PTA.
