New York City Fire Museum Reopens After 2 Years Of Repairs

SOHO, NY — The New York City Fire Museum reopened to the public Thursday after nearly two years of repairs to address structural concerns at the historic building.

The museum, housed in a renovated 1904 firehouse at 278 Spring St., has been closed since May 2024. During the closure, the three-floor official FDNY museum underwent structural and aesthetic renovations, including new flooring and other improvements throughout the building.

The museum will have thousands of historic FDNY artifacts and memorabilia, with some dating to the era of horse-drawn firefighting apparatus.

Visitors can see an array of historic tools, uniforms, vintage apparatus and other items documenting the history of the New York City Fire Department.

The reopening comes weeks before the 25th anniversary of 9/11.
