'The RealReal' Does SoHo: Secondhand Designer Clothes Site Opens 1st Pop-Up Shop

Shoppers can browse luxury products at more affordable prices at The RealReal's first brick-and-motor store.

SoHo, NY — The well-known e-commerce consignment site The RealReal opened their first pop-up store at 79 Greene St. in SoHo Dec. 1. This marks the first time the company is selling their luxury merchandise in person and not online. The pop-up store will run 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday until Dec. 15, multiple news outlets report.

The RealReal is like an online thrift store: it's a luxury consignment site that sells second-hand designer clothes and accessories for decently low prices. The company launched in 2011 and is estimated to post $400 million in revenue by the end of 2016, according to Pret-a-Reporter.

The site has a strict authentication process to protect against frauds, which provides a safe platform for consumers to purchase high-end brands. The company hires in-house professionals such as gemologists, horologists, art appraisers and apparel experts to guarantee that each product is 100 percent authentic and in good condition.

New York City is the largest market for the site, according to Pret-a-Reporter. Los Angeles ranks as the second-largest market.

“With such a strong buyer and consignor base in New York City, we wanted to test a brick-and-mortar concept and bring our beautiful, one-of-a-kind products to the eclectic shoppers of New York City,” a spokesperson for The RealReal said, according to Pret-a-Reporter.

Women's and men's clothing, fine jewelry and watches, and art and home items will be featured at the NYC pop-up. Shoppers can browse a range of A-list labels—Hermès, Cartier, Chanel, Gucci, Tom Ford, Prada and others—at the SoHo location, Yahoo! reports. These luxury products will be sold at more affordable prices since they were consigned from previous owners.

“We are focused on selling high-end luxury from some of the best heritage brands in the world, and SoHo strongly represents that aesthetic and elegance, in addition to being a busy shopping neighborhood,” the RealReal spokesperson said to Pret-a-Reporter.

The pop-up store will be restocked with new inventory every day. If you don't have time to visit the store, check out The RealReal site.
