2 Men Try To Steal $8K Of Liquor In Hamptons, 1 Crashes Car: Cops
Both men were arrested after using a stolen credit card to try and purchase the liquor; they were issued appearance tickets, police say.
SOUTHAMPTON, NY — Two men were arrested over the weekend and charged with trying to use a stolen credit card to buy $8,000 worth of liquor at a Southampton liquor store, police said.
Desmon Walker, 23, of Tuckahoe, was arrested and charged with fourth-degree grand larceny, a felony; Malik Fletcher, 24, of Tuckahoe, was arrested and charged with fourth-degree grand larceny, a felony; leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident, a misdemeanor; and unlawful fleeing a police officer, a misdemeanor, police said.
According to Southampton Town Police, a call came in Saturday at 3:15 p.m. from Bottle Hampton in Southampton. Police got a description of the two vehicles the men were driving and when responding officers arrived, the men fled, authorities said. One man crashed his vehicle and he and an occupant then fled on foot, police said.

A Southampton Village Police K-9 unit responded and helped with the search to find the two men, who were found and taken in to custody, police said.
The registration plate for the second vehicle was provided and a "quick-thinking New York state trooper ran the registration plate and established a possible address where the second vehicle was registered," police said.

Sag Harbor Village Police located the second vehicle within their jurisdiction and Southampton Town police patrol units, the community response unit, and Sag Harbor Village police took custody of the two in the vehicle, police said.
A total of four people were taken to Southampton Town police headquarters for questioning, police said.
Walker and Fletcher were released on appearance tickets under the new bail reform act, police said.
