3 Teens Rescued After Kayaks Overturn In Creek: Cops

One of the teens was taken to the hospital for evaluation, police say.

FLANDERS, NY — Three teenagers were rescued after their kayaks overturned in a Flanders creek Wednesday, police said.

According to Southampton Town Police, the incident took place at 6 p.m. when police received a report of overturned kayaks in Birch Creek and the three male teens, two 18 and one 17, in the water.

Southampton Town Police and Southampton Town bay constables responded and successfully retrieved the teens and the kayaks from the water, authorities said.

The kayaks overturned due to rough water conditions and worsening weather, police said.

The teens were evaluated at the scene and one was transported by Flanders-Northampton Volunteer Ambulance Corps to Peconic Bay Medical Center for further evaluation, police said.

The names of the teens were not immediately available, police said.
