BRIDGEHAMPTON, NY — Four women were arrested after stealing more than $1,500 in merchandise from the Bridgehampton T.J. Maxx — and then crashing their getaway vehicle into a police car, authorities said.
According to Southampton Town police, the incident took place at 2:42 p.m. Thursday at the store in Bridgehampton Commons. Two females entered the store, loaded up shopping carts with items and subsequently left the store without paying, police said.
The women then got into a white sedan with New Jersey plates and fled the area, police said. A responding officer spotted the vehicle leaving the shopping center and attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the driver continued heading westbound on Montauk Highway in Water Mill for several miles before turning around to go eastbound again for a few miles, police said.
