Bloods Gang Member Sentenced After Fatal Hamptons Hit-And-Run: DA
Police found the leg of the man struck and killed — which had been severed in the crash — 70' away from his body, DA says.

SOUTHAMPTON, NY —A member of the Bloods street gang was sentenced Thursday in connection with a fatal hit-and-run that took place in Southampton last year, Suffolk County District Attorney Tim Sini said.
“This individual is a dangerous gang member and a career criminal," Sini said. “He showed no regard for human life when he callously left the victim to die on the side of the road, and continued throughout this case to show a blatant disregard for the law and for the consequences of his actions. Today’s sentence ensures that he will no longer be a threat to our community’s safety.”
Chace Quinn, a/k/a Chase Quinn, 20, of the Shinnecock Indian Reservation, pleaded guilty on May 8to aggravated vehicular homicide, a felony; leaving the scene of an incident resulting in death, a felony; intimidating a witness, a felony; and driving while intoxicated, a felony, Sini said. He was sentenced Thursday by Suffolk County Acting Supreme Court Justice Fernando Camacho to eight to 24 years in prison, Sini said.

On April 5, 2018, Quinn was driving a 2013 Jeep Wrangler eastbound on County Road 39 in Southampton while intoxicated when he struck and killed a pedestrian, Sini said. He left the scene without reporting the crash to law enforcement and continued driving to the Shinnecock Reservation, Sini said.
At approximately 2:30 a.m., the Southampton Town Police Department received reports of a deceased male lying in the roadway on County Road 39; officers responded and identified the man as Joseph Lynn McAlla, 63, of Clifford, PA, Sini said. McAlla had just completed a delivery of stone to Southampton Masonry and was crossing the roadway when he was struck and killed, Sini said.

The impact of the crash left debris strewn 300' along the roadway, Sini said. Police located the McAlla's leg, which had been severed in the crash, 70' away from his body, Sini said.
Following an investigation by the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office, the Southampton Town Police Department and the New York State Police, Quinn was identified as the driver responsible for the crash; he was arrested by New York State Troopers on May 29, 2018, at 2:30 a.m. on Sunrise Highway while attempting to flee the state to live with family members in Georgia, Sini said.
“This was a collaborative effort between the prosecutors, Maggie Bopp and James Curtin, and the law enforcement agencies that investigated this hit-and-run, including the Southampton Town Police and New York State Police,” Sini said. “Thanks to that partnership and their dedication, this defendant was brought to justice.”
The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Maggie Bopp and James Curtin, of the Vehicular Crimes Bureau.
