SOUTHAMPTON, NY —A Bloods street gang member has pleaded guilty in a fatal hit-and-run in Southampton last year, Suffolk County District Attorney Timothy Sini said.

Chace Quinn, a/k/a Chase Quinn, 20, of the Shinnecock Indian Reservation, pleaded guilty Wednesday to aggravated vehicular homicide, a felony; leaving the scene of an incident resulting in death, a felony; intimidating a witness, a felony; and driving while intoxicated, a felony, Sini said.

On April 5, 2018, Quinn was driving a 2013 Jeep Wrangler east on County Road 39 while intoxicated when he struck and killed a pedestrian; he left the scene without reporting the crash to law enforcement and continued driving to the Shinnecock Reservation, Sini said.

At 2:30 a.m., the Southampton Town Police Department received reports of a deceased male lying in the roadway on County Road 39, Sini said.

Officers responded and identified the man as Joseph Lynn McAlla, 63, of Clifford, Pennsylvania; McAlla had just completed a delivery of stone to Southampton Masonry and was crossing the roadway when he was struck and killed, Sini said.

The impact of the crash left debris spanning 300' along the roadway; police located the victim’s leg, which had been severed in the crash, 70' away from his body, Sini said.

“This is a significant conviction of a highly dangerous gang member,” Sini said. “From the minute this deadly crash occurred, he tried to evade law enforcement. At each step of the way, he attempted to avoid taking responsibility for this crash by tampering with evidence and intimidating witnesses, but today my office made sure he was held accountable."

Following an investigation by the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office, Southampton Town Police Department and the New York State Police, Quinn was identified as the driver responsible for the crash, Sini said. He was arrested by New York State troopers on May 29, 2018, at 2:30 a.m. on Sunrise Highway while attempting to flee the state to live with family members in Georgia, Sini said.

Quinn is scheduled to be sentenced by Suffolk County Acting Supreme Court Justice Fernando Camacho on June 13; he is expected to be sentenced to eight to 24 years in prison, Sini said.
