
This Frank Capra–directed romantic comedy follows Longfellow Deeds (Gary Cooper), a humble small-town poet from Vermont who inherits a massive fortune and moves to New York City, where he becomes the target of opportunists, scheming lawyers, and intense media attention. As he grows close to reporter Babe Bennett (Jean Arthur), their relationship makes his time in the city even more complicated. The film was nominated for seven Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Actor, and won Best Director.
