“Deconstructing
the Sayre Barn: Photographs by Ulf Skogsbergh” an exhibit of highly detailed
oversize photographs, features what Ulf Skogsbergh found to be the most
fascinating phase of the reconstruction of the Southampton Historical Museum’s
Sayre Barn, its deconstruction. As the
Sayre Barn was dismantled its skeleton was revealed, the tools of another age
came out of the shadows to be reexamined and admired for their sculptural
beauty and simple utility, and on each structural element could be seen signs
of the passage of time. With his engineer’s training and artist’s eye, and
using photography’s most advanced techniques, Mr. Skogsbergh launched his
meticulous examination of the time-worn building by creating a stunning
four-by-15-foot, 360-degree panorama of the barn “before anything really
happened.”
This exhibit’s opening reception will be held on Saturday, June 14th,
4 to 6pm, free admission and light refreshments will be served. After the opening the open hours for the exhibit are Wednesday through Saturday,
11am – 4pm and the fee is $4, free for members
and children.
