Father, Child Whose Boat Capsized Rescued On Shelter Island Sound

The boat capsized in the Shelter Island Sound and both father and son were rescued after their ordeal, police said.

EAST END, NY — A father and his young son were rescued when their boat capsized in the Shelter Island Sound Sunday, police said.

According to Southampton Town Police, on Sunday at 12:30 p.m., Southampton bay constables responded to the scene; bay constable Chris Fraser and the harbormaster of Sag Harbor responded to find Scott Gorman, of Bethpage, clinging to a 15-foot overturned vessel, police said.

A good Samaritan helped Gorman's son aboard their boat; then, Gorman and his child were taken aboard the bay constable's vessel, police said.

Bay constables righted the boat and towed the vessel to Shelter Island; neither father nor son required medical attention, police said.
