Gunman Fires Shots On Shinnecock Reservation: Police

He shot at an occupied vehicle, police say.

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — A gunman who shot at an occupied vehicle on the Shinnecock Indian Reservation in Southampton surrendered, police said.

According to New York State Police, on November 4 at approximately 9:15 p.m., New York State Police Riverside patrols received a call of shots fired on the reservation.

Upon arrival, New York State police patrols, assisted by the Southampton Town and Village police departments, located a 2010 Nissan Altima that had been shot several times while it was occupied by the driver, police said.

The driver did not sustain any injuries, police said.

Tyler Bess, 21, of the Shinnecock Indian Reservation, turned himself in to New York State Police and was charged with second degree criminal use of a firearm, a felony, first degree attempted assault, a felony, first degree reckless endangerment, a felony, and second degree criminal mischief, a felony, police said.

Bess was arraigned at Southampton Town Justice Court and was released on $5,000 cash bail, police said.
