SOUTHAMPTON, NY — Southampton Town trustees have declared an ice emergency for town waters, due to severe winter weather in recent weeks.

According to Jimmy Mack, president of the trustees of the freeholders and commonality of the Town of Southampton, the declaration was made for the purpose of advising residents that they should take steps to see that pilings and other marine structures do not become a hazard to navigation once the ice has thawed and the waters become navigable again.

Residents who have permits for marine structures that have become damaged or set free due to the ice will be permitted to apply for an expedited permit to repair or replace them, he said.
