ICYMI: Two Hospitalized After Boat Hits Sandbar in Shinnecock Bay

In case you missed it, here’s a story that appeared earlier this week in Southampton Patch:

Two people were hospitalized after the boat they were on hit a sandbar in Shinnecock Bay on Sunday evening, according to Southampton Town Police.

Southampton Town Bay Constables received a call that the 40-foot pleasure craft ”Satisfactory” had run aground south of buoy 12 in Shinnecock Bay at 6:30 p.m., police said.

Bay constables Danielle McManus and Nicholas DiBari responded aboard Marine 9, along with the U.S. coast Guard from station Shinnecock.

The boat’s captain, Gregory Nissen, 34, of Greenport, said that there were injuries aboard after the boat made an abrupt stop after striking a sandbar, police said.

Nissen was transported to Southampton Hospital by Hampton Bays Volunteer Ambulance for treatment of a possible head injury, police said.

One of the passengers, Gregory Soros, 28, of Shelter Island, lost consciousness after impact and was also transported to Southampton Hospital for treatment of possible rib and head injuries, police said.

The third passenger, Courtney Sherwood, 29, of Manhattan, reported no injuries and was evaluated and required no further medical attention, police said.

The vessel was later removed by commercial assistance tow and was transported to a marina and secured.
