Man Charged With DWI Fell Asleep In Road With BMW Running: PD

The East Hampton man is facing a felony DWI charge, police say.

WATER MILL, NY — An East Hampton man was charged with driving while intoxicated after he fell asleep in his BMW in the middle of the road with the vehicle running, police said.

According to Southampton Town Police, on Saturday at 3:33 a.m., a 911 call came in about a vehicle parked at the intersection of Seven Ponds Road and North Sea Mecox Road in Water Mill. Officers found a BMW SUV in the middle of the road with Fredy Castro, 31, asleep in the driver's seat, police said.

When he was woken up, Castro showed signs of intoxication, and an open alcohol container was found in the cup holder; he was given standardized field sobriety tests and performed poorly, police said.

Castro was arrested and charged with felony DWI as well as several vehicle and traffic violations, police said. He was taken to Southampton Town Police headquarters and held for morning arraignment, police said.
