Man Found Asleep At Wheel With Cocaine, Tequila In Hamptons: PD

The vehicle was parked but running with the engine in drive, police say.

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — A Southampton man was arrested after he was found intoxicated and asleep, with tequila and cocaine in his vehicle and the motor running, police said.

According to Southampton Village police, on Sunday at 3:52 a.m., Erick Huayamave, 25, was arrested on Moses Lane and charged with first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, a felony, as well as second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, driving while intoxicated, and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, all misdemeanors.

A caller told authorities that a vehicle was parked with a person behind the wheel on Moses Lane, police said. An officer found a 2018 Lexus and saw Huayamave behind the wheel with the engine running and the vehicle in drive; he was asleep with his foot on the brake, police said.

Police also saw a bottle of tequila on the front passenger seat, and Huayamave was found to be in possession of a quantity of cocaine, police said.

He was arrested, processed, and held for morning arraignment, police said.
