Man Reportedly Stole Car, Brought It Back: Police

RIVERSIDE, NY — A man was arrested after he reportedly took a car but then brought it back, police said.

According to Southampton Town Police, Willie Hopkins, 42, of Riverhead was arrested at 11:34 a.m.; patrol officers were flagged down at the Riverside traffic circle by someone who said his car had just been stolen from Old Quogue Road, police said.

When police went back to the spot, the car had been returned, police said. Hopkins, who was still in the immediate area on foot, was pointed out, arrested, and charged with third-degree unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor, police said.

He was processed and released on an appearance ticket for justice court at a later date, police said.
