Nurse Travels To LI From Virginia To Help Fight Coronavirus
"It was hard to stay home when nurses here were drowning." On National Nurse's Day, one woman describes why she headed to LI to help.

SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY — Wednesday is National Nurse's Day, and to honor front line heroes who have been waging a fierce war against the new coronavirus, Patch reached out to nurses who have sacrificed time with their own families and faced unthinkable situations, all in a shared mission to save lives.
Jenny Jacobs traveled from Charlottesville, VA to Suffolk County to help in recent weeks.
Jacobs, who did not disclose where she has been working due to privacy concerns, said she is a travel nurse who will never forget her time on Long Island.

"There were a lot of standout moments; many I won’t share," she said. "The silver lining is that the nurses I have worked with are the smartest, nicest, and most dedicated I have ever worked with."

When asked how she summoned up the bravery to face the coronavirus crisis head on, traveling far from home, Jacobs answered: "I don’t think it took courage. I just knew that it was an 'all hands on deck' situation."

Being far from home is not an issue, she said. "I have worked all over the country," Jacobs explained.
Describing what prompted her to travel to Long Island, Jacobs said, "It was hard to stay home when nurses here were drowning."
