Residents Able To Return Home After Riverside Propane Leak Sparks Evacuation: Police

The leak has been contained and residents were allowed back to their homes,police say.

RIVERSIDE, NY — The area around Ludlam Avenue and Phillips Avenue has been reopened and deemed safe for residents to return, Southampton Town police said Monday, about 3:30 p.m.

The area had been evacuated due to a propane leak, police said.

"Thank you to the Southampton Town fire marshals and Riverhead Fire Department for safely resolving this situation and to the Southampton Town Community Center in Flanders for providing services for the displaced residents," police said.

The areas around Phillips Avenue and Ludlam Avenue in Riverside were closed off and residents were evacuated due to a propane leak Monday afternoon, police said.

Southampton Town Police, the Riverhead Fire Department and Southampton Town fire marshals were at the scene.
