Police Need Help To ID Man Struck By 2 Vehicles On LI

He died at the scene, authorities say. The tattoo shown was found on his left outer calf.

FLANDERS, NY — Police are asking for the public's help to identify the pedestrian hit by two vehicles Sunday night in Flanders, who died at the scene.

According to Southampton Town Police, at 7:29 p.m., several 911 calls came in for a pedestrian who had been struck at the intersection of Flanders Road and Route 105.

A 46-year-old from Madison, Connecticut, who was driving a Mercedes SUV and turning from Flanders Road onto Route 105, struck the pedestrian when he ran out in front of the car, police said. That crash sent the pedestrian into a lane of travel, where he was struck by the second vehicle, a 2013 Honda Odyssey driven by a 37-year-old Riverhead man, police said.

Detectives are looking for any information on the man to properly notify his next of kin. He is described as Hispanic, possibly in his 40s to 50s, about 5-feet, 6-inches, with a thin build, police said. He was wearing a Chicago Bulls hat, black jeans, a black sweatshirt, black-and-red Converse sneakers, and carrying a black backpack, police said. The tattoo in the photo shown was located on the man's left outer calf, police said.

Both drivers remained on scene and cooperated with police; no charges were filed, authorities said.

Southampton Town Police personnel responded and requested the Flanders-Northampton Volunteer Ambulance and the Flanders Fire Department for assistance, police said. Southampton Town detectives also responded and are currently investigating the crash, police said.
