PHOTOS: Run Raises Funds for Autism Foundation

Flying Point 8K for Autism Awareness rakes in $5,000.

Dirk Muench, 33 years old, won the Flying Point 8K for Autism Awareness, which benefits the Flying Point Foundation for Autism, on Oct. 16 with a time of 26:31. His pace was 5:18/mile. Top female finisher Heather Wright, 38, of Westhampton came in at 30:28, a pace of 6:06/mile. Full results can be found at island-timing.com.

There were 165 people, including walkers, registered for the event, which started and ended at the parking lot.

"We are very grateful to our sponsors and the cooperation of the and parks department," said Kim Covell, who started the foundation and organized the run. "We raised more than $5,000, which will go toward programs of the Flying Point Foundation for Autism, including its summer camp in August."
