Police ID Man Killed In Christmas Morning Hamptons Home Invasion

The North Sea resident was found dead in his home after a 911 call regarding a burglary, police say.

NORTH SEA, NY — Police have identified the man killed in a Christmas morning home invasion in North Sea as Steven Byrnes.

According to Suffolk County Police, Byrnes, 53, of Roses Grove Road, was found dead of a gunshot wound in his home at 8:45 a.m. Southampton Town Police responded to a 911 call regarding a burglary at the home and found him, officials said.

Byrnes was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner, police said.
