'Reckless And Erratic' Driver Charged With DWI: Police

He was seen driving in a "reckless and erratic manner" in Flanders Saturday, police say.

FLANDERS, NY— A Port Jefferson Station man was arrested Saturday after he was caught driving while intoxicated and with a suspended license in Flanders, police said.

According to Southampton Town Police, the incident took place at 6:17 p.m. when authorities received a report regarding a motorist headed north on Flanders Road and driving in a "reckless and erratic manner."

A Southampton Town Police community response unit officer responded and saw the driver turning the vehicle into a nearby gas station, authorities said. Edward V. Gregory, 52, was arrested and charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, and third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor, police said.

Gregory was processed at Southampton Town Police headquarters and held for morning arraignment, police said.
