Major East End Heroin, Cocaine Rings Dismantled, Gang Members Busted: DA

Dealers sold drugs on the East End, as well as in Brookhaven Town; the heroin network was run by Bloods gang members, the DA said.

Two major drug rings selling heroin and cocaine across the East End have been taken down, Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota announced Monday night.

Spota will be joined by law enforcement officials affiliated with the East End Drug Task Force Tuesday in Riverhead to announce the dismantling of two drug distribution networks — one dealing heroin, the other cocaine, in eastern Suffolk County, a release from Spota's office said.

So far, 14 people have been arrested and arraigned, including three members of the Bloods street gang, but more arrests are expected, Spota said.

Multiple kilograms of cocaine and heroin have been seized during the execution of more than a dozen search warrants, Spota added.

Law enforcement officials have seized kilograms of heroin and cocaine, firearms and traps created by drug dealers to hide cocaine and heroin.

Investigators even found $95,000 in cash hidden in a trap in a vehicle’s front seat console and a trap in an aquarium stand found in an alleged dealer’s house, Spota said.

The drugs were sold across the East End, Spota said. One dealer allegedly made a weekly purchase of a kilo of cocaine in New York City to sell to street dealers who in turn sold cocaine to users in East Hampton, Riverhead, Southampton and Southold.

The heroin network was run by local members of the Bloods street gang.

Both drug distribution networks operated on the East End, primarily in Riverhead and Southampton, but also included cocaine and heroin street sales in Port Jefferson, Mount Sinai, Sound Beach, Mastic, Shirley and the Moriches area, Spota said.

Further details will be revealed at a press event at the Arthur Cromarty Criminal Courthouse in Riverhead Tuesday at 11:30 a.m.
