Search On For Driver In Hit-And-Run Crash That Killed Man

The search continues for a driver who fled the scene of a Long Island crash that left a man dead recently, police say.

RIVERSIDE, NY — Police are still searching for the driver of the Jeep involved in a fatal Riverside hit-and-run last week.

According to Suffolk County Police, the crash took place at 6:28 p.m. on Jan. 13 Flanders Road and Old Quogue Road. The driver of a gray, box-style Jeep Cherokee, similar in style to the photo provided by police, fled the scene, police said. Police say they are looking for that style of Jeep, which would likely have sustained front-end damage.

The pedestrian, David Humberto-Amaya, who was homeless, was treated by Southampton Town Police patrol officers until the Flanders-Northampton Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded; he was flown by Suffolk County aviation to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he later died, Southampton Town Police said.
