'Shop With A Cop' Event Makes Holiday Dreams Come True For Kids

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — Coronavirus couldn't stop the annual "Shop With A Cop" event from making holiday dreams come true for kids.

On Tuesday, Southampton police, the Southampton Town Police Explorers, New York State Police, and Southampton Village Police participated in a the event, sponsored by Walmart.

"The event was a outstanding success helping children and families from Southampton Town bring holiday cheer to the season,"Southampton police said.

The Riverhead Walmart store, along with Southampton Town Police, provided a large donation; others who donated included the Southampton Town Superior Officers Association, the Southampton Town Policeman’s Benevolent Association, the Southampton Village Policeman’s Benevolent Association, Human Growth and Understanding, Inc, and community members.

Staff at the Southampton McDonald's also provided gift cards to the families, police said.

"We would like to especially thank Walmart and their employees who were so welcoming and assisted us in spreading this holiday cheer. It brought much needed joy to this difficult year," police said. "The program has been a highlight of our officers' year, allowing us to bring joy to deserving families — especially this year, which has been so tough on our community."
