Supervisor Declares Snow Emergency in Southampton
BREAKING: The declaration means emergency travel only, and no parking, on town roads, the supervisor said.

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — Update: 12:23 p.m.: Southampton Town Supervisor Jay Schneiderman has issued a snow emergency in town.
The declaration means parking on public roads is suspended, he said.
"Blizzard conditions" have made roads extremely dangerous, Schneiderman said.

Original story: With snow accumulations potentially reaching 19 inches and blizzard conditions unfolding, Southampton Town Supervisor Jay Schneiderman said Thursday morning that travel is "discouraged."
As of 11 a.m., Schneiderman said, there was heavy snowfall throughout town, with four inches of accumulation in the western part of town over a slush/ice base and three inches in the eastern portions of Southampton over an ice base.

There were four storm related accidents so far with no injuries reported and no additional storm calls to police, the supervisor said.
Visibility in western Southampton was down to 30 feet, and 100 feet in the eastern part of town, Schneiderman said.
Active plows on state, county and town roads are no longer visible in the eastern portion of town; roads in the western section of town are slippery but passable, Schneiderman said.
"Hazardous conditions exist on all roadways. Travel should be discouraged until the storm subsides," he said.
As of 11 a.m. the temperature was 31 degrees, with winds increased to 26 miles per hour, he said.
