Southampton Town Bay Constables Rescue Two People, Dog From Sinking Boat

The Constables received the call at 5:35 p.m. on Saturday.

Southampton Town Bay Constables rescued two people and a dog from a boat that was sinking in Shinnecock Bay, according to Southampton Town Police.

On Saturday, Nov. 8, at approximately 5:35 p.m., the town constables received a distress call on VHF Channel 16 from a vessel operator stating that he had run aground in western Shinnecock Bay off Phillips Point.

The operator stated that his vessel was rapidly taking on water with two persons and a dog on board.

Southampton Town Bay Constable Danielle McManus responded aboard Marine Patrol vessel 9 and upon arriving on scene immediately removed the female passenger and the dog as the vessel was taking on water quickly.

Southampton Bay Constables along with commercial assistance towing companies were able to dewater the vessel and safely escort it to Hampton Boat works on Smith Creek in Hampton Bays. Southampton Bay Constable Mark Ruocco assisted in the operation.

No injuries were reported as a result of the grounding but the vessel sustained substantial damage.
