Police: Staten Island Man Stole Fare Back From Limo Driver

Michael Fontana is charged with grand larceny following incident last week.

Southampton Town Police responded to a call from a limousine driver on Aug. 31 at 4 a.m. who said the man who hired him, Michael Fontana, 21, of Staten Island, attempted to beat the fare.

Fontana paid the limo driver $600 in cash at the end of the ride and then demanded it back, according to police.

Upon police arrival, it was determined that the limo driver refused to return the money and attempted to retreat to his limo when Fontana accosted the driver and stole back the money from his pants’ pockets. He was arrested and charged with grand larceny and was held overnight before he was brought to the Southampton Town Justice Court.
