Police have confirmed on Thursday that the accident that occurred on Wednesday afternoon in Southampton that injured two people was caused by the driver falling asleep at the wheel, according to a report in 27east.

The 60-year-old driver was driving eastbound County Road 39 in the right lane, when he fell asleep causing the car to cross over the median and into the right lane of the westbound side of CR-39 and crashed head-on with a Southampton Town Highway Department truck, according to the report.

Two people were transported to Southampton Hospital with non-life threatening injuries after a car crash on County Road 39 by Sandy Hollow Road in Southampton on Wednesday afternoon, according to a report in 27east.
Police told 27east that the Southampton Town Highway Department trailer hit a car head-on.
County Route 39 was closed in both direction from Magee Street to Sandy Hollow Road, according to an alert from Southampton Town.
