Woman Dies After Falling Off Tube Pulled By Boat: Cops

Tragedy: A 13-year old girl who was with the woman and also fell from the tube was saved, police say.

FLANDERS, NY — A 65-year old woman died Saturday after she fell off a tube being pulled by a boat, police said.

According to Southampton Town Police, the incident took place at 1:30 p.m. on Peconic Bay in the vicinity of Red Cedar Point in Flanders.

The Southampton Town Police Department received a 911 call about the boating incident; the 65-year old woman and a 13-year old girl were reported to have fallen off the tube, police said.

The young girl was pulled back onto the boat but the woman was unable to get back into the boat; it is believe she possibly may have suffered a medical condition and become unconscious, police said.

Southampton Town Police officers, bay constables, Suffolk County Police aviation and Hampton Bays Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded, police said.

Suffolk County aviation was able to locate the drifting vessel and directed responding marine units to the location, where the woman was pulled from the water, police said. The woman was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The identity of the woman is being withheld until family can be notified, police said.

It's the second tragedy to unfold on East End waters in two days: On Friday, a Nassau County woman drowned in Southold when a paddle board yoga class ended in tragedy, police said.
