Man Hits Barrier, Charged With DWI In Greenport: Police

GREENPORT, NY — A man was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated in Greenport on Monday after hitting a concrete barrier and trying to drive away, police said.

According to Southold Town Police, the incident took place at 10:08 p.m. on Front Street when the driver, Jason Torres, 35, hit a concrete road barrier on Front and First Streets and fled the scene until his car broke down.

Torres was stopped, had bloodshot, glassy eyes, his breath smelled of an alcoholic beverage and he was unsteady on his feet; Torres was administered field sobriety tests at the scene which he performed poorly on, police said.

Torres was transported to Southold Police headquarters for processing and held overnight for arraignment before Southold Town Justice Court, police said.
