2-Car Accident on I-684 Kills Danbury Man

Police are still investigating last night's fatality.

A Danbury, CT man died last night on I-684 in a two-car accident that snarled traffic for hours.

The accident occurred at about 7:18 p.m. more than a mile south of the Danbury exit, state police said.

Israel N. Albarracin, 37, was traveling north in a maroon 2005 Buick Rendezvous, which struck a northbound 2011 Subaru Legacy.

The driver of the Legacy was Raymond P. Finney, of Carmel.

The Buick struck the Subaru on the passenger side, near the back. It then left the road, rolled over and wrapped itself around a tree.

Albarracin was pronounced dead at the scene by Transcare paramedics due to apparent head trauma. Finney was not injured as a result of the crash.

New York State troopers were assisted by the Brewster Fire Department, Transcare, and the Danbury Police Department.

The investigation kept the northbound side of 684 to one lane until late last night; the traffic backup stretched south as far as exit 6 in Katonah.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation and additional information will be released on the New York State Police Newsroom as it becomes available.
