3 Crashes, 1 Arrest: Monroe CT Man In Southeast

Police said he was driving under the influence of drugs.

BREWSTER, NY – A Connecticut man hit a car. Then he hit a guard rail. Then he went off the road. He was accused of driving under the influence of heroin after the three minor accidents on I-84, New York State Police said.

On May 8, troopers from the Brewster barracks arrested Nuno V. Xavier, 44, of Monroe, CT, for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th degree, a class A misdemeanor, Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, an unclassified misdemeanor, and multiple vehicle and traffic law infractions.

Police said troopers were dispatched by Putnam County 911 at 4:20 p.m. to Route 312 near the Interstate 84 off-ramp in the town of Southeast for a report of a car off the roadway. Investigation found the vehicle had hit both another vehicle on Interstate 84, and later a section of guide rail.

The operator, Nuno Xavier, fled from both accidents before going off the road.

Further investigation determined Xavier was under the influence of heroin, and in possession of approximately 3.61 grams of heroin. He was issued the appropriate Uniform Traffic Tickets and Appearance Tickets returnable to the town of Southeast Court on May 29.
