Baby And Toddler In Car When Driver Arrested For Felony DWI After Hit-And-Run At Gas Station: NYSP

The Putnam County man at the wheel was found to have a BAC of 0.11 percent, according to New York State troopers.​

BREWSTER, NY — A Putnam County man was arrested after driving while intoxicated with two small children in his vehicle, police said.

The New York State Police say that on Wednesday, around 6:29 p.m., troopers from Brewster assisted the Village of Brewster Police Department with a hit-and-run property damage vehicle accident at the Sinclair gas station, located on Main Street in the Village of Brewster.

During a search of the area, troopers found a vehicle matching the description given by witnesses in a rear parking lot on Main Street.

While speaking with the driver, identified as 22-year-old Julian M. Castillo, of Brewster, troopers noticed signs of intoxication, according to police. Standardized field sobriety tests were administered, which Castillo failed, NYSP said.

State police say that two children, a 9-month-old and a 2-year-old, were also in the vehicle at the time of the stop.

Castillo was arrested and taken for processing, where his blood alcohol concentration (BAC) was found to be 0.11 percent, police said.

State police said the children were turned over to a sober party.

Castillo was charged with two counts of felony aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child passenger; misdemeanor driving while intoxicated; and several vehicle/traffic violations.

He was released with traffic tickets and is scheduled to appear in the Village of Brewster Court on March 23.
