CARMEL, NY — Carmel police responded to a variety of incidents April 24.
At midnight, Carmel police received a call from a resident advising he was just assaulted by a stranger in the area of Miller Road. Officer Connor Carroll interviewed the victim, who said he had confronted a man stumbling down the road in an attempt to prevent him from driving. An argument ensued and the man struck him in the head with a beer bottle, causing a laceration. A second person then appeared and drove the man away. Officer James Zaccone located the suspect vehicle in the area of Route 6 and Croton Falls Road. The man was taken into custody without incident and transported to CPD headquarters for processing. He was charged with Assault in the Third Degree, and issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Carmel Court May 2.
At 1:30 p.m., Officer Giorgio Palmiero saw a black sedan fail to yield the right of way to an oncoming vehicle and subsequently initiated a traffic stop in the area of Route 6 and Old Route 6. A subsequent investigation at the scene determined the vehicle was a taxi cab for a local treatment facility on Old Route 6. There were two female passengers in the back seat. One of the women provided Officer Palmiero with a false name in an attempt to conceal her identity. After further investigation, Officer Palmiero was able to determine that she had provided a false name due to five outstanding bench warrants from Orange County, NY. She was taken into custody without incident and charged with Criminal Impersonation in the Second Degree and issued an appearance ticket, returnable to the Town of Carmel Justice Court May 16.
