Boyfriend Accused of Punching, Choking Woman He Threatened with Scissors

Putnam County deputies charged him with harassment and menacing.

Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the arrest of a Patterson man on charges resulting from a domestic dispute.

On June 14 at 12:01 p.m., Deputy Sheriffs Christopher Irwin and Andrew Kristan responded to 2671 Route 22 in Patterson to investigate a report of a family dispute.

A woman had reported that her boyfriend, identified as Jeffrey P. Diaz, 50, had subjected her to physical abuse over a 24-hour period from June 13 to the time of the report.

It is alleged that Diaz, who also lives there, threatened the victim with a pair of scissors; punched the victim in the head with a closed fist; and put his hands around the victim’s throat.

The deputies arrested Diaz and charged him with Menacing in the Second Degree, a misdemeanor; and with Harassment in the Second Degree, a violation. He was processed at the Putnam County Correctional Facility and held pending arraignment.

If found guilty of the misdemeanor charge, he could face up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.
