Brewster, Mahopac Win 'Smart Schools' Grants
The money is designated for school security, classroom technology and improved connectivity.
PUTNAM COUNTY, NY — Brewster and Mahopac school districts have each won a grant for technology initiatives. The state approved 133 plans in all, totaling $111 million, as part of the $2 billion Smart Schools Bond Act approved by voters.
They are meant to improve safety, modernize classrooms and equip students with skills they need for the global economy.
"The Smart Schools Bond Act is enhancing school safety and modernizing outdated classrooms in every corner of this great state," Gov. Andrew Cuomo said in the announcement. "This funding expands opportunities for students and educators, and provides New York's future leaders with a safe school environment and the latest technology to learn the skills necessary to succeed in the modern economy."
