Brewster Man Charged After Throat-Cutting Incident

The victim arrived at the Brewster firehouse seeking help.

BREWSTER, NY – On July 29, 2016, New York State Police from the Brewster barracks arrested 25-year-old John K. Schoenfelder Jr. for Assault 2nd Degree, a Class D Felony, Reckless Endangerment 1st Degree, a Class D Felony, and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th Degree, a Class A Misdemeanor.

The New York State Police and Village of Brewster Police Department had responded that day to assist EMS at the Brewster Fire Department with a reported assault.

Putnam County 911 reported that a man arrived at the fire house for medical assistance after he had been cut with a knife by a male acquaintance. He was treated for a laceration to his neck that was deemed to be non-life-threatening.

Police allege that their investigation revealed that Schoenfelder cut the victim’s neck with a knife.

The Brewster resident was located on North Main Street by responding police agencies and placed in custody.

Schoenfelder was arraigned in the Town of Southeast Court and remanded to the Putnam County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail. The State Police were assisted by the Village of Brewster Police Department and the MTA Police.
