Brewster Man Charged with Aggravated DWI

Police allege his blood-alcohol level was four times the legal limit.

On Feb. 12, New York State Police charged 44-year-old Hari Nayar of Brewster, NY, with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated, a Misdemeanor, following a collision in the Town of Southeast.

Troopers were dispatched by Putnam County 911 to a two-car personal injury auto accident on State Route 22 in the area of the Eagle Gas Station. Investigation revealed that Nayar was traveling southbound on State Route 22 when he failed to keep right. His vehicle traveled over the double yellow line and struck a northbound vehicle, operated by Deborah E. Miele, of Wallkill, head-on.

Miele was transported to Danbury Hospital by Brewster Rescue Squad with non-life threatening injuries.

While interviewing Nayar, police determined that he was intoxicated at the time of the crash.

Nayar supplied a breath sample that revealed a Blood Alcohol Content of .31 percent, almost four times the legal limit of intoxication, police said.

Nayar was issued traffic tickets ordering him to appear before the Town of Southeast Court on Feb. 26.
