Brewster Participates in Watchfires to Respectfully Retire American Flags
The flames of the John Morris Watchfires will be fueled by tattered flags from May 27 to 29 from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am.

From Putnam County Executive:
Each year, for over a decade, Veterans have gathered at Putnam County Veterans Memorial Park to steadfastly guard our monuments from desecration. At the John Morris Watchfires, Veterans and others safeguard the monuments while retiring tattered American Flags. The flames of the Watchfires are fueled by these tattered flags from May 27 to 29th 6:00 pm to 6:00 am.
We have thousands of flags to retire each year but we welcome more so that they may be retired properly and with dignity. You can drop off your tattered Old Glory at the County Office Building, the Sheriff's Office, the Department of Motor Vehicles, and the Office of the Veterans Service Agency located on the Donald B. Smith Campus. There are four locations in the county that have permanent drop off bins: Brewster VFW near the Brewster Train Station, Carmel VFW at 32 Gleneida Avenue, Putnam Lake VFW at 4 Fairfield Dr. and at the Putnam County Veterans Memorial Park.
