Brewster's Biondi Earns All-American Honors

Sophomore first Brewster girls lax player to do so.

Brewster sophomore Lindsay Biondi had already accomplished a lot more than most players, including tallying her 200th career goal in a 13-9 loss at eventual five-time Section 1 Class A champion Lakeland/Panas on May 16. All told, she ended the season with 214 goals.

As it turns out, she reached an even bigger milestone this week as she was named All-American, the first Brewster girls lacrosse player to ever receive that honor. The Brewster varsity girls lacrosse program started in 2001.

“I am happy that I got the award,” Biondi said. “I am proud of myself that I got this far but I feel like without the help of my teammates, I never would have been named All-American.”

One of those teammates is sophomore all-section midfielder Kristen Ohberg, and she was ecstatic that her teammate and good friend was able to earn such a high honor.

“I am thrilled for her,” Ohberg said. “It’s great to be able to play with her and call her my friend because it’s really a great honor for her to achieve.”

Ohberg said that Biondi was able to achieve All-American status because of her work ethic.

“It’s because of hard work, she goes out there even on her free time,” Ohberg said. “I know her and her sisters play in the backyard whenever they can. It’s just hard work all the time. That’s the reason why.”

Her sisters are former Brewster players Kaitlan Biondi, who is 23 and played lacrosse at Allegheny College in Meadville, Pa., and Emily Biondi, 20, who will be entering her junior year in September as a midfielder playing for James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Va.

Lindsay Biondi said that her sisters have been a huge influence in her lacrosse career and honing her game against them is a big reason why she has become the player she is now.

“They would bring back new information and tell me about it,” Lindsay Biondi said. “Being able to use that information helped me become a better player.”

“They have been through it all so I can always go back to them and ask them for help,” Lindsay Biondi continued. “It’s nice to have older sisters to teach me stuff.”

The Brewster sophomore admits that earning All-American honors is something that she has thought about.

“I had it in the back of my mind but if I didn’t get it wasn’t like it was going to break my heart,” Lindsay Biondi said. “But now that I did get it, it’s something that I can cross off my list.”

Emily Biondi, a three-time all-section player who graduated as Brewster’s all-time leader in points (391) and goals (316), wasn’t surprised at all to hear that her sister achieved All-American honors.

“I have watched her grow up as a player,” Emily Biondi said. “I actually played varsity with her for two years. She is just an unbelievable player from her intensity and her skills, she’s outstanding. The fact that she was able to do it as a sophomore makes it even more of a special accomplishment. We’re all really, really proud of her.”
