Carmel Man Accused Of Selling Drugs To Sheriff's Deputy

He was arrested during a traffic stop and police say he had heroin in the car.

CARMEL, NY — A Carmel man faces 11 charges in Putnam County, most of them related to drugs. Sheriff Robert L. Langley, Jr. reports the arrest of Carlos Priego, 22, on felony narcotics sale and possession charges on Feb. 15

In September 2017, a deputy assigned to the Sheriff's Department Narcotics Enforcement Unit began to investigate allegations that Priego was involved in the sale of heroin and prescription medications
in the county.

Police allege the deputy was able to contact Priego and arrange for the purchase of heroin and suboxone
on four separate occasions.

On Feb. 15, members of the NEU took Priego into custody during a traffic stop, where they say he was found to be in possession of a quantity of heroin.

Priego was charged with two felony counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 3rd Degree, two felony counts of Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance in the 3rd Degree, two felony counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 5th Degree, two felony counts of Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance in the 5th Degree, one misdemeanor count of Criminal Possession of a controlled substance in the 7th Degree, one misdemeanor count of Criminal Possession of a Hypodermic Instrument, and one misdemeanor count of Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle in the 3rd Degree.

Priego was arraigned before the Honorable Judge Jacobellis of the Town of Carmel Court and
committed to the Putnam County Correctional facility in lieu of $25,000 cash or $50,000 bond.
