Carmel Schools Going Remote For The Holidays
Carmel High School is already online only and the other schools will follow suit Monday.
Carmel school officials have decided to shift to all remote learning through the first week in January, to cope with rising cases of coronavirus positivity and the expected holiday surge.
Carmel High School went all virtual Monday. New positive cases were reported, and staffing issues had become a problem, said Interim Superintendent Eric Stark.
All the other schools in the district will shut down their hybrid operation Dec. 14.

"Along with the increase in positive cases in our schools comes an increase in the number of students and staff who must quarantine," Stark wrote. "Overall, 922 students have had to quarantine since September. Forty-eight percent of those 922 student quarantines have occurred in just the past two weeks. Of the 158 staff members who have had to quarantine since September, 42 percent have been in the past 2 weeks. This information, as well as additional statistics, is available on our website."
The plan is to start in-school instruction back up Jan. 11, officials said on the district website.
