Cops: Carmel Woman Raided Family Member's Retirement Account

She was arrested by state police and arraigned in Southeast town court.

SOUTHEAST, NY – Bonnie J. Garvey, of Carmel, New York, faces charges of Grand Larceny in the 3rd Degree and Forgery 2nd Degree, both Class D Felonies.

On March 9, state police in Brewster had been contacted by a Queens man who reported that someone had withdrawn more than $2,000 from his 401K account. The deduction, including taxes, totaled the removal of over $3,000 from his retirement fund.

An investigation revealed that a family member had applied for a hardship loan from the victim’s account and forged his name on the loan documentation.

On March 16, Garvey, 55, was arraigned in the Town of Southeast Court and remanded to the Putnam County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond.
