Cops: Kent Man had Heroin, Needle

A Putnam Sheriff's Deputy pulled a car over for a traffic violation.

Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the arrest of a Kent man on drug charges in the Town of Patterson.

At 4:43 p.m. Feb. 13, Deputy Sheriff Jonathan Irwin pulled over a vehicle for a traffic violation on Route 311 in Patterson. Subsequently, a passenger in the vehicle, identified as Daniel R. Hutchby, 31, of 12 Rochelle Road in Kent, was allegedly found to be in possession of a quantity of heroin and a hypodermic needle.

Irwin arrested Hutchby and charged him with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree and with Criminally Possessing a Hypodermic Instrument, both class A misdemeanors.

Hutchby was booked at the Sheriff’s Office and was then released on his own recognizance pending a future appearance in the Town of Patterson Justice Court to answer the charges. If found guilty of the misdemeanors, he could face up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000 on each count.
