Coronavirus: Putnam Limits Services At County Offices

The Putnam DMV will see people by appointment; drop boxes have been installed for filing essential paperwork;

Essential county services will continue, Putnam County Executive MaryEllen Odell said.

Effective Wednesday, the county's motor vehicle department office will see people only by appointment. Visit the website to schedule an appointment. Bring the confirmation email and all completed forms. Call 845-808-1142 or email countyclerk@putnamcountyny.com with questions.

Drop boxes have been installed at the County Office Building and will be installed at other facilities in the near future for any essential paperwork the public needs to submit to the county; however, it is advisable to call the relevant department before leaving any documents.

Additionally, all county operations have been reduced by 50 percent to comply with Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s directive. Essential services remain fully staffed.

β€œDuring these challenging times, I am proud of the way the community is stepping up and doing what it takes to support each other,” Odell said. β€œWe will remain diligent and together we will work through this.”

As of Tuesday, Putnam County had two confirmed cases of the virus officially known as COVID-19.

The Health Department remains the lead agency and is working very closely with the Bureau of Emergency Services and all departments and is coordinating daily with federal, state and local officials. We will continue to keep the public updated as new information is received, she said.

Odell said her administration has been working closely with the Putnam County Legislature to implement the rapidly unfolding policy changes.

β€œWe will do all that we can to keep Putnam residents and employees safe,” Putnam County Legislature Chairwoman Toni Addonizio said. β€œThese are challenging times but we want the public to know we are looking out for them."
