PUTNAM COUNTY, NY — A 25-year-old from New Hampshire died Sunday morning on Route 9 in Philipstown. Route 9 was closed for more than four hours during investigation and accident cleanup.
Police were called at 6:20 a.m. to a two-car crash north of Route 301. Initial investigation found that a 2018 Dodge Challenger operated by Isaiah Byars of Derry, NH was northbound on Route 9, and for unknown reasons entered the southbound lane. Byars’ vehicle struck then struck a southbound 2015 Jeep Cherokee.
Byars was pronounced deceased at the scene by emergency medical personnel. The operator of the 2015 Jeep Cherokee was transported to Westchester Medical Center by Philipstown Ambulance.
