Playing with your brother can be fun, especially when doing it from the attack position of a varsity lacrosse team.
That’s the case for Brewster senior co-captain Paul Dingee, who will be playing attack alongside his brother, sophomore Nick Dingee, for a Bears’ squad that is coming off a 9-9 season of a year ago.
The Dingee brothers lead an attack unit that can move the ball, find the open man, create and capitalize on its scoring opportunities.

“We know each other pretty well,” Paul Dingee said. “We both have similar type of games. We both work really well playing a two-man game from X, where we can dodge either way.”
Senior co-captain Trevor Smith, a long-stick middie, sophomore Anthony Alfonzetti, junior Shane Flattery and freshman Liam DaRos head a talented midfield group. Smith leads the way with his ability to be able to stop any middie he comes against defensively.

That ability will come in handy playing in Class B, which is loaded with offensive talent with teams like Yorktown, John Jay, Somers, Fox Lane and Rye.
“Our midfiedlers have great skills,” Brewster senior attackman Brian McPartland said. “They have been playing for a while. They have good catching and passing skills. They know the game.”
Leading the defense are junior returnees, co-captain Harry Erickson and Collin Callahan.
“They are very athletic,” Paul Dingee said. “Harry has been playing on the varsity level since his freshman year. He’s a shutdown defender. He’ll probably cover the other team’s best attackman. Collin is a lefty so he can cover a righty attackman, which really helps us.”
Junior Pat Garrity, who gained valuable varsity experience as the back-up a year ago, will be starting in goal this season with capable sophomore Ed Schoenig backing him up.
Paul Dingee, McPartland and Smith are the Bears only three seniors so their leadership will be invaluable to a young squad. McPartland said that it will be important for the seniors to show the underclassmen what to do during practice and set a good example by giving 100 percent at all times.
“Last year we started out kind of slow,” McPartland said. “We played our best ball at the end of the season in May. That was our main goal last year to play our best ball at the end of the season as we went into the sectionals and we want to do that again this year.”
Brewster, coached by Mike Honey, is scheduled to open its season at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, March 29 at Arlington.
