Driver Accused Of Hitting Phone Poles On Peekskill Hollow Road

Sheriff's deputies called to the scene said they witnessed an odd series of events.

PUTNAM COUNTY, NY — County Sheriff Robert L. Langley Jr. reports the arrest of a Wappingers Falls man accused of ramming his car repeatedly into telephone poles on Peekskill Hollow Road.

Deputy Kevin Radovich and Emergency Service Unit Deputy Brian Neary responded to Putnam Valley at 6:38 p.m. Feb. 11 for a report of a road hazard.

Radovich found a vehicle that had struck a telephone pole. As he approached, he saw the driver back up and then drive forward smashing his car into the pole. Radovich then watched the driver back up onto Peekskill Hollow Road and drive off.

In an attempt to pull the driver over, Radovich activated his patrol unit’s emergency lights and
sirens. The vehicle’s driver refused to pull over and continued to drive recklessly on Peekskill Hollow Road, almost striking oncoming vehicles, police said.

Then it appeared to Radovich that the driver stepped on the brake — which caused the vehicle to swerve off the roadway and strike another telephone pole, police said.

Radovich and Neary approached the vehicle and noted that the driver appeared to have only minor injuries. They then attempted to place him under arrest.

The driver, later identified as Jeffrey Kidd, 48, refused to follow commands and resisted arrest, police said. Radovich and Neary eventually were able to transport him to the Putnam County Correctional Facility for arrest processing.

Kidd is due in court on misdemeanor charges of Reckless Driving, Unlawful Fleeing
of a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle in the Third Degree, Resisting Arrest and Obstruction of Governmental Administration in the Second Degree. In addition, he was charged with numerous traffic violation offenses.

Kidd posted $250 cash bail and was released. He is scheduled to appear in the Town of Putnam Valley Justice Court at a future date and time.
